Tigrinya Summer Program

Selam all and families of the children in our Tigrinya Summer Program, This is to announce that class will start on 16 July, 2011 from 2pm-4pm. at the Eritrean Community Center, Located at 1998 Homestead Rd #115, Santa Clara, Ca 95050.

We are also pleased to announce that 15 children are registered so far and it is counting. As such we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit for one or two hours to assist in class. This will be a wonderful experience to work with our young generations and contribute in their progress towards learning Tigrinya language. If interested please email back and let us know as soon as possible.
I am so excited to teach our young ones and look forward to meet them.

As we have stated in our last Friday (August 5) social gathering, there is a change in a schedule of the programs. Instead of the "Tigrinya Movie Night" , on Friday 19 August the program will be about financial planning We have professional guest speakers Selam Berayes and Ken Prodger. the program will start at 7pm. The Eritrean Community Center (ECC) of Santa Clara County is hosting an event that introduces its ongoing Tigrinya language class for kids on Sunday, September 18, 2011. The program will start at 2:00 pm.

The event will include performance by the first members of the Tigrinya summer students. 

We look forward to see all parents of our current students, as well as prospect students and all interested Eritreans and friends.

Part 1" will be presented by one of our own (highly dedicated member of the ECC) Mr. Abraham Negash. It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more of how Tigrinya publications have evolved thus far. We hope to see you there.

Announcement of our 50th Sept. 1st celebration
on September 2nd 2011

We will celebrate on Friday, September 2nd 2011 the beginning of our struggle for independence. The event will take place in our community center in 1998 Homestead Rd. Suit 115, Santa Clara, at 7 pm. We will start with opening speech and poems about our independence and will be showing a newly released Tigrinya movie. We will also review and discuss the movie afterwards. Everyone is welcome to join and celebrate this memorable day with us.

ECC Children Put up an Impressive  Performance: Show Their Language Skills

 The Eritrean Community Center (ECC) in Santa Clara County hosted an event that officially launches its Tigrinya language class for children yesterday, Sunday September 18, 2011. Parents, including children who attended summer Tigrinya class as well as individual guests and friends of the ECC were present.

Tigrinya performance by the children who completed Tigrinya summer class at the ECC added zest to the event and impressed audience. The children entertained the audience, presented poems and drama in Tigrinya, as well as danced to Tigrinya music. The theme of their performance underscores the importance of learning languages and the language of your origin particularly to reflect and uphold your identity and heritage.

 Representatives from parents of the students expressed their satisfaction on the outstanding language progress and aspiration indicated by the young children to learn Tigrinya and indicated their support and gratitude to ECC for initiating the language classes.

Tigrinya language is a Semitic language spoken by Tigrinya ethnic groups in Eritrea and Ethiopia. The 15 children who enrolled in the Summer Tigrinya class at the ECC were from Eritrean American and Ethiopian American families.  The Tigrinya language classes are an ongoing service that the ECC is committed to provide to all families.
